Setup guide

Get Nermi running in a few minutes

Follow these steps once. You can change everything later.

  1. Add her to your server

    Click the button, choose your server, and confirm. You need permission to manage the server.

  2. Check her permissions

    The invite asks for all permissions so every feature works. You can trim them afterwards in Server Settings, Roles. This is what each one is used for:

    Kick and Ban!kick, !ban, !unban, !warn, !mute and auto-mod kicks.
    AdminNeeded for !mute and !unmute, because Nerimity only lets admins mute. Admin includes every other permission.

  3. Put her role above the roles she should manage

    Nerimity only lets a bot give out roles that sit below its own highest role. In Server Settings, Roles, drag Nermi's role above the roles you want her to hand out, such as colour or ping roles.

    She also protects your server: staff can only manage roles below their own, and role menus and level rewards refuse roles with moderator permissions.

    Want new members to get a role automatically? That is built into Nerimity. Turn on the apply-on-join option in the role's settings.

  4. Say hello

    Type !help or open the slash menu with /. Then try one of these:

    • !adopt Mochi Get your own cat.
    • !poll 1h Pizza or tacos? | Pizza | Tacos A poll that closes itself.
    • !trivia A quick question with buttons.
    • !rank See your level (earned by chatting).

  5. Optional: set up the server features

    Run these in the channel you want them to use:

    • !welcome set Greet new members here.
    • !logs on Log joins, leaves, edits and deletes here.
    • !starboard on 3 Post messages with 3 or more star reactions here.
    • !xp reward add 5 Regular Give the Regular role at level 5.
    • !automod words add word Block a word. Add !automod links on to block links.
    • !prefix ? Change the prefix for your server.

Questions

A command isn't answering. What should I check?

Make sure Nermi can see and send messages in that channel. She also waits about a second and a half between commands from the same person, and limits how many commands she answers per channel in a short time, so she never floods a chat.

Why does !mute say it didn't work?

Nerimity only allows admins to mute people, so Nermi needs the Admin permission for !mute and !unmute. Everything else works without it.

Why can't she give out a role?

Her highest role has to be above the role she is giving, and you have to outrank it too. Roles with moderator permissions can never be given out by role menus or level rewards.

Can I change the prefix?

Yes. Admins can use !prefix ? (or any 1 to 3 characters). Slash commands always work, whatever the prefix is.

Why are some commands missing from the slash menu?

Nerimity allows 99 slash commands per bot, and Nermi has 100 commands. A few small novelty ones only work with the prefix. They are marked on the commands page.

Does she work in direct messages?

Some commands do, but most are made for servers because they use roles, channels and members.

What data does Nermi keep?

Only what the features need, like coins, XP and your cat. See the privacy page for the full list.

How do I report a problem or ask for a feature?

Join the support server and tell us what happened. Include the command you used and what you expected.
